Learn About Energy Assistance

The Weatherization Assistance Program (Weatherization) is an energy program that helps low-income households with the high cost of energy. It’s funded by the federal government.  Work is performed on your home to help you stay warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Eligible households can receive this help at no cost.    Priority is given to older adults, people with disabilities, and families with children. Examples of weatherization to make your home more efficient:

  • • adding insulation in the attic 
  • • fixing or replacing windows
  • • sealing cracks and holes
  • • checking your heating and air conditioning systems

Is there a certain time of the year that I should apply for the program?
You may apply for the program at any time of the year.

What is the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program?
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, also known as LIHEAP, helps low-income families pay their heating or cooling bills.   LIHEAP is a grant and it does not have to be repaid.  This program is not designed to pay a household’s total energy costs, but to assist with paying residential heating or cooling costs for eligible households

To receive help: • You don’t have to be receiving public assistance •  You don’t need to have an unpaid heating or cooling bill •  You can either rent or own your home.

Who is eligible?
Any resident of California who meets the income guidelines and is responsible for energy costs in a home may be eligible.
